My photography focuses on the natural beauty of birds, flowers, butterflies and other nature subjects near to my home in Central New Jersey, the Catskill Mountains in New York and wherever else my travels have taken me in the United States. Although I have been taking pictures as a hobby for more than 20 years, the last few years I have seriously specialized in observing and photographing the wonders of the natural world close to home. I hope that my photography can communicate to others an appreciation of the world around us. One of my current photo projects is to photograph endangered species here in New Jersey. I will be adding to that gallery as I find and photograph the various species.
When I first started photographing in the early 1980's, I began with a Canon AE-1 35mm manual focus film camera. Technology has come along way since then and allows the photographer to do more with the tools available. However, it is still the photographer and his or her vision that makes the photo. Given the great change in technology, I now primarily shoot with state of the art Canon Digital SLR's. I use the Canon 1D Mark IIn, 1Ds Mark II and 5D along with a variety of Canon lenses from a 16-35mm wide angle zoom up to a 600mm lens for bird photography.
One of the great things for me about digital photography is that it allows me to process and print my photographs in the digital darkroom on my computer. I now can have total control over my photography from the moment I visualize a photograph until it is printed.
My photos are available for licensing to publications. I also offer fine art prints that I produce myself using archival inks and paper.
I have a certificate in professional photography from the New York Institute of Photography. I am a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, the North America Nature Photography Association and Naturescapes.net. My photos have appeared in Nature Photographer Magazine, Birders World.com, and Naturescapes.net
I live in Freehold, New Jersey with my wife and 8 year old daughter. My daughter is my favorite non-nature photography subject.
